Welcome!

  The DA/DSS Roundtable
The Central Mass DA/DSS Roundtable is a multidisciplinary group of medical services, law enforcement, and child welfare professionals who meet every month to monitor cases of serious physical abuse of children in Worcester County.

The group consists of representatives from the Department of Social Services, the Office of District Attorney John Conte, the Child Protection Program of UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center, the City of Worcester Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police.

Under a protocol developed in 1997, whenever the Department of Social Services in Central Massachusetts receives a report of serious physical abuse or neglect, the Assistant District Attorney in charge of prosecuting child abuse cases is immediately notified--day or night.

The Assistant District Attorney then contacts the local police or Massachusetts State Police.

Because of this early notification, investigations can begin sooner and crucial information can be shared among law enforcement, social services, and physicians at the initial stages of a case, resulting in better prosecutions and child protection.

The DS/DSS Roundtable has been meeting monthly since 1997. The Central Massachusettts Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Campaign was a Roundtable initiative, prompted by the alarming number of SBS victims in 2001.
